During this tour we will visit the palaces and the churches of the most powerful and influential Florentine family of the Renaissance. Their villas and palaces hosted the great artists and intellectuals of this golden age.
The House of Medici dominated Florentine politics for 300 years (c. 1434-1737). Originally a hardworking, middle-class family in the cloth, silk and banking business, they used their wealth, popularity and philanthropy to rise into Europe’s nobility, producing popes and queens. Cosimo the Elder, Lorenzo the Magnificent and Cosimo I, those are just few names of the most important men of this family, all generous patrons of the arts.
In our itinerary you will hear about the story of a conspiracy against the Medici that led to a bloody assassination in 1478. We will see San Marco Church, Palazzo Medici Riccardi, San Lorenzo Church and we will visit the Medici Chapels, that contain tombs of this great family. We will also visit Michelangelo’s New Sacristy, a chapel designed by this great artist, and the Chapel of Princes, fully decorated with many different colored marbles.
