Galileo Galilei Museum – Science Tour – About 1.5 Hours
This museum hosts one of the biggest scientific collection of the world, started by Cosimo I in the XVI century and enlarged by the successors, especially during the years of the scientist and mathematic Galileo Galilei.
Galileo revolutionized humanity’s understanding of science and the universe with proof that the Earth orbited the sun. He spent many years of his life in Florence, protected by the Medici Family.
In the museum’s Medici collection, there are some of Galileo’s original scientific instruments, including his iconic telescope and the lenses he used to discover the moons of Jupiter. We will see his real middle finger, perfectly preserved in an ornate glass vial!
After that, we will admire an incredible collection of ancient Italian scientific equipment, including Antonio Santucci’s armillary sphere, which is the largest in the world. We will talk about how much Tuscany has contributed to modern science.
